Christmas… a time filled with joy, family & wondering where the hell did the year go? Now heading in to the festive seasons, it also means the Annual Work Christmas Party is just around the corner. Yep, as much as we all like to let our hair down, have a good time & boogie on with our work colleagues. Sometimes, some of us need a little reminder of the do’s & DON’TS of a Work Christmas Party.

Do: Make An Effort To Attend

I know, I know we spend 38 hours per week with these people, is it really necessary to spend more time with them? The answer is YES! The Christmas Party is a way employers show their appreciation of all your hard work throughout the year. Having to spend the night making small talk to Bob about his stamp collection may not be your idea of fun, but it’s still important to make an effort. It could also be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know other people in your workplace and who knows you could learn a thing or two or promotion maybe?...

Don’t: Go Overboard With The Alcohol

You’re not doing yourself any favours downing 20 bottles of beer & passing out in the toilets. It may be an open bar, but it shouldn’t become an episode of ‘Employees Gone Wild’. Remember, this is still a work event, people won’t remember the shoes you were wearing that night, but if you had one two many, oh boy they will remember that. Save yourself from being the subject of everyone's conversation on Monday and those awkward morning stares. Know your limits, leave the real partying for your family Christmas party. They are the ones that would love you no matter what.

Do: Dress Appropriately

You don’t have to wear your best ball gown. But make sure you dress appropriately for the occasion. If there is a theme to your work Christmas party, PARTICPATE! Don’t be the party pooper … join in on the fun! At the end of the day it’s a team effort, don’t let you team down.

Don’t: Be Glued to Your Phone All Night

Who is guilty of this? Going out on the night, ready to have a great time, only to find that everyone is on their phones texting or on Facebook or Instagram? BORING! I will admit it I have a co-dependant relationship with my phone, I don’t know what I would do without it.  But just leave it for one night, your messages & cat videos will still be there later.  Go and have fun with your colleagues, you guys deserve it!
